How to Quick Add a Place from the Map on Nifl

Learn how to instantly save any location directly from the map in Nifl. Press and hold to drop a pin, pick a label, assign a collection, and save in seconds. Step-by-step guide.

The Fastest Way to Save a Place in Nifl

Sometimes you don't need to search. You're already looking at the map, you can see exactly where a place is, and you just want to save it before the moment passes.

That's what quick add is for.

Quick add is Nifl's fastest saving method. Press and hold anywhere on the map and a save sheet appears instantly — no searching, no switching tabs, no friction. You name it, label it, assign it to a collection, and it's saved. The whole thing takes seconds.

It's the method designed for the moment of spontaneous intention — when you're browsing an area, planning a trip, or just exploring somewhere new and want to capture places as you go.

When to Use Quick Add

Quick add from the map works best when:

  • You're browsing a city or area on the map and want to drop pins as you explore
  • You're planning a trip and you can see the locations you want to visit on the map already
  • You know roughly where a place is but don't know its exact name
  • You want to save a general area or spot rather than a named business
  • You're in a hurry and want to capture something fast without searching

If you already know the exact name of the place you want to save, the search method inside a collection might be more accurate. But for speed and spontaneity, quick add is unmatched.

Step-by-Step: How to Quick Add a Place from the Map

Step 1 — Open the Map Tab

Open Nifl and tap Map in the bottom navigation bar. The map will load showing your current area. You'll also see any collection pins you've already saved — each one represented by its icon on the map.

If this is your first time opening the map, it will ask for location permission. Allow this so the map centres on where you are.

Step 2 — Navigate to the Area You Want

Pan and zoom the map to find the area or location you want to save. You can:

  • Pinch to zoom in and out
  • Drag to move around the map
  • Use the search bar at the top to jump to a city or area

Take your time exploring. Quick add works anywhere on the map — you're not limited to named businesses or points of interest.

Step 3 — Press and Hold on the Location

When you've found the spot you want to save, press and hold your finger on that exact location on the map. Hold for a moment until the add sheet appears from the bottom of the screen.

The add sheet is your save panel. It's where you give this place its name, type, and home collection.

Step 4 — Enter the Name of the Place

In the add sheet, type the name of the place you're saving. This is how it will appear in your collection and as a label on the map.

Be as specific or general as you like:

  • A specific restaurant name: "Dishoom King's Cross"
  • A general description: "That rooftop bar we walked past"
  • A personal note: "Good brunch area — explore here"

The name is just for you. Make it something that will mean something when you come back to it.

Step 5 — Select a Pin Label

Choose a pin label — the type of place you're saving. Nifl has over 40 pin labels across six categories:

Food & Drink — Coffee & Café, Burger, Bakery, Noodles & Ramen, Dessert & Sweet, Restaurant, Bar, Cocktail, Wine Bar

Shopping — Thrift Store, Superstore, Bookstore, Flower Shop, Local Stall

Culture — Gallery, Theatre, Landmark, Museum

Social & Nightlife — Club, Live Music

Activities & Outdoors — Hike, Waterfall, Park, Water Activities, Camping, Climbing, Lake, Viewpoint, Biking Trail, Hotel, Spa & Wellness, Gym

Travel — Parking, Train Station, Bus Stop, Airport, Ferry Terminal

Pick the label that most accurately describes the place. The pin label determines the icon that appears on the map, and it's what you'll use later to filter your saved places by type.

If you're not sure, pick the closest match. You can always edit it later.

Step 6 — Choose a Collection

Select which collection to save this place into. Your existing collections are listed in the add sheet — tap the one that fits.

Collections are how Nifl keeps your intentions organised. A place saved to "London Date Night Spots" sits separately from one saved to "Work-From-Café London" — even if both are in the same part of the city.

If none of your existing collections feel right, the best approach is to save it to the closest match and move it later, or open the Collections tab first and create a new collection before coming back to quick add.

Step 7 — Save

Tap save. The pin appears on the map immediately at the exact spot you pressed, with the icon of your chosen pin label. It's now inside the collection you assigned it to, visible on the map, and ready to be scheduled or surfaced by proximity when you're nearby.

That's it.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Quick Add

Use it when exploring a new city before you visit. One of the best uses of quick add is pre-trip planning. Open the map, navigate to the city you're going to, and spend a few minutes pressing and holding on areas you want to explore. Drop pins for neighbourhoods, districts, parks, anything that catches your eye. You'll arrive with a map full of intentions rather than starting from scratch when you get there.

Don't overthink the name. Quick add is built for speed. If you spend too long trying to write the perfect name, you lose the point of the feature. Drop the pin, give it a rough name, and refine it later if you need to. "Interesting area near canal" is a perfectly valid pin name.

Use the category filters after. After a session of quick-adding pins, go into your collection and use the category filters to browse what you saved. The map view of a collection shows all your pins laid out geographically, which makes it easy to see clusters and plan a route.

It works offline too. The map may load in reduced detail without a connection, but the quick add flow itself doesn't require internet to capture a pin. Your saves will sync when you're back online.

What Happens to Your Pin After You Save It

Once a place is saved via quick add it lives in your chosen collection like any other pin. From there you can:

  • View it on the map — open the collection and see all your pins on the map together
  • Schedule it — go to the Calendar tab and assign a date and time to the pin. Sync it to your Apple Calendar so it sits alongside your other plans
  • Get a proximity nudge — Nifl will send you a gentle notification when you're near a place you've saved, reminding you it's there without being pushy
  • Edit the details — tap the pin to open its detail view and update the name, description, label, or collection at any time

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I press and hold in the wrong spot? Just close the add sheet and try again. Your press-and-hold position is only confirmed when you save — nothing is saved until you tap the save button.

Can I move a pin after I've dropped it? Currently pins are saved to their dropped location. If you need to adjust the position, you can delete the pin and re-add it in the correct spot, or use the search method to find the exact place by name.

Does quick add work for places that aren't on the map? Yes — quick add works anywhere on the map, not just at named points of interest. You can drop a pin on a street corner, in a park, at a specific building, or anywhere else that matters to you.

Can I add more details to a quick add pin later? Absolutely. Tap the pin in your collection to open its full detail view where you can add a description, update the label, add a website, and more.

What if I haven't created any collections yet? You'll need at least one collection before you can save a pin. If you don't have any, head to the Collections tab first and create one — it only takes a moment — then come back to the map and quick add.
